One-of-a-Kind Trunk Show

Create: Your Story. Your Inspiration. Your Identity.

Ever wanted to customize your own charm necklace or bracelet? Maybe with your name or the name/initials of loved ones? Well, now's your chance – our Nashelle Identity Collection Trunk Show starts this Thursday! It's our first-ever event that allows YOU to be the designer and create a piece of jewelry that's unique to you & your story. Or give a really special gift (Mother's Day is right around the corner!).

Nashelle's delicate hoop earrings, memorable state necklaces and customizable Identity Collection keep us wanting more. It's true – this jewelry line really speaks to us. And the company's roots have a lot to do with it:

Heather Nashelle Straw always thought she would grow up to be a shoe designer or dress maker. Believe it or not, she admits that jewelry design didn't feel as natural to her. However, that quickly changed – after studying metal arts at the University of Alaska Southeast, a whole new world of design was revealed to her; one that was inspired by simplicity and the combining of metals & stones. All of a sudden Heather started paying close attention to the changing of seasons, the beauty in nature and the many facets of women. And that's when she started her own jewelry line – Nashelle! She would spend all day designing & creating on her living room floor and would sell her jewelry just by wearing it in public. From that point on, she worked diligently to turn her new-found passion into her lifelong career.

Now over twelve years later, Nashelle is a team of 20 talented designers, jewelry makers and office assistants. Each & every piece is handmade in their warehouse in Bend, Oregon from recycled 14k gold fill and sterling silver materials, as well as natural gemstones. The pride Heather takes in her work, along with her vision, truly make her designs wearable works of art.

Pretty inspiring story, huh? Just wait until you see the jewelry line in person. Join us this Thursday, April 18th – Sunday, April 21st for some shopping, champagne & cupcakes! And stay tuned, we'll be sharing more exclusive details about the event tomorrow...

Building a Legacy

Industry experts discuss Citizen of Humanity Adriano Goldschmied's impact on the denim industry.

As we gear up for the first day of our Citizens of Humanity Trunkshow (it's tomorrow!), we've enjoyed learning more about COH, one of our favorite denim brands. It's really interesting that AG, another one of our favorite (and best-selling denim lines!), is a partner & visionary for the COH brand. Adriano Goldschmied "always brings the next thing," and it's certainly clear in his work that he is paving the way for the future of denim.

Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend at our Trunkshow! Come early & get the best selection of COH jeans - you'll be glad you did!

The Citizens of Humanity Philosophy

Founder Jerome Dahan tells about COH's culture, product & commitment to their customers.

Such a great company (we can't say enough good things about their denim!). If you don't own a pair of their jeans yet, our Trunkshow (starts this Thursday!) is the perfect time to get a pair (or two) in your closet. We'll make jean shopping fun with champagne, sugary treats, 10% OFF, and a free gift with any COH purchase!

Our excitement for this Trunkshow is growing by the day! Will we be seeing you this weekend? (We sure hope so!)

Q&A with Deena Lender

Our Citizens of Humanity Sales Rep

Some may say that September is a month of switching gears. This is certainly true for us. Instead of dreaming of sunny days at the beach, we have apple-picking, fall-scented candles, football and Frye boots on the brain.

I mean, how could we not be excited for this transitional month, especially when we have so much exciting stuff planned for Bliss - it involves “fall makeovers” for both our stores (think cashmere sweaters, plush corduroys and wool scarves!), a NYC buying trip, and our first-ever trunkshow with Citizens of Humanity! We’re thrilled (and you should be too), particularly since there will be free giveaways, denim raffles, mountain-high piles of jeans, and our COH sales rep will be in town.

Meet Deena, our super helpful & knowledgeable sales rep from COH. Trust us, she knows her denim! That said, keep reading to find out more about her career at COH, details on her (denim) wardrobe, and other secrets - all pertaining to denim:

First of all, thanks for taking the time to do this Q&A blog with us. For our readers who aren’t as familiar with Citizens of Humanity as we are, can you tell them a little about the company?

Here’s a little history about the brand & our founder, Jerome Dahan. It’s pretty interesting stuff:

Parisian-born Jerome Dahan founded Citizens of Humanity in 2003, but his passion and experience in denim started long before then. In 1981, he discovered his talent for design & took a job with Guess Jeans - a job that would forever change his life. At Guess, he felt like something was missing & made it his goal to one day recreate the market for the next generation of jean wearers; he had a plan for the future of denim.

In 1999, Dahan conceived the idea that became 7 for All Mankind - a brand that would change the industry like only a few brands ever have. Dahan introduced new fits, new denim fabrics, new washes and new finishing techniques (which included Dahan’s signature vintage center crease line that made both a flare and boot leg look slim & sophisticated).

After leaving 7 for All Mankind in 2002, Dahan took the opportunity to fully bring his vision to life with a new brand - Citizens of Humanity! Dahan set his company up for success by bringing in a skilled team & joining forces with his long-time mentor Adriano Goldschmeid (in 2007). Today, he takes great pride in being a brand that is not only about craftsmanship & quality, but also about people and creating a culture that focuses on creativity & inspiration. Made in the U.S., COH jeans have truly changed the denim world with their cutting-edge details, supreme comfort and perfect fit.

“We are all Citizens of Humanity.” - Jerome Dahan

How long have you worked for COH?

I have worked for COH for the past 9 months; however, I had been the showroom fit model for over 2 years and an avid promoter of the brand before that. I still have my first pair of Citizens I bought back in 2007!

Citizens of Humanity Trunkshow

Here's your personal invitation...

What? We’re hosting our first-ever Citizens of Humanity Trunkshow! It's going to be one super exciting & extra special event. Here’s what you can expect:

Take 10% OFF all COH! Now that back-to-school shopping is done, it’s your turn to treat yourself.

Allow our denim experts to find you the perfect pair of jeans while you sit back & enjoy champagne & sweet treats!

Deena, our COH sales rep, will be in our Portland store on Thursday & Friday of the event. (Stay tuned for our Q&A with Deena - it will be on our blog tomorrow!)

Free gift with any COH purchase - it’s a good one too! (While supplies last, 1 per customer.)

And lastly, we’re having a daily RAFFLE for a free pair of jeans (of your choice!). You’ll receive 1 raffle ticket for every COH item you purchase... and we’ll draw a winner each day of the trunkshow! (Those are some seriously good odds!)

When? Thursday, September 13th - Sunday, September 16th

Where? The event will take place in both our Portland & Portsmouth stores! (However, our sales rep will be visiting our Portland store only!)

Why? Because we love denim, especially Citizens of Humanity jeans! Come check out our new fall arrivals - plush corduroys, a high-waisted straight leg (so awesome!), and we’re even getting a skinny black “leatherette” (coated denim that looks like leather!). Start making room in your closet...

We hope you’re as excited as we are! It’s the perfect way to start the fall season.

P.S. Be sure to tell your friends! After all, aren’t shopping trips with friends even more fun?

Summer Flashback

It's been our best summer season yet!

Well hello, September. In the fashion industry, this is the month of thick fashion magazines, must-read fall trend guides, New York Fashion Week, and for us here at Bliss, one of our biggest buying shows of the year - Coterie. There’s no denying it, we’re just 4 days into September & we have fall on the brain. Maybe it’s because we can hardly wait to trade our iced coffees for warm pumpkin spice lattes at Bard Coffee, or because we can’t keep our hands off our new cashmere sweaters... but whatever it may be, it’s safe to say that fall is officially here.

So, before we fully dive into our new season of coats, scarves, corduroys & leather boots, let’s take a look back at our summer here at Bliss. (It sure has been a good one!)

MAY:

We entered the month of May on a high; our store celebrated our 10 year anniversary during the last weekend of April. We had a party full of things we love: gelato, Prosecco, our customers, free giveaways and a storewide sale (of course)! It was a memorable event that really set the tone for the months ahead.

Next up was our AG Trunkshow! With stacks & stacks of the latest denim styles, our AG rep in town, and a gelato cart, this event reminded us why we love summertime (oh, and AG jeans!). We’re already looking forward to bringing this event back next year.

JUNE:

One of the biggest highlights of our summer was being featured on Elle.com’s “50 States of Shopping!” In the article, Elle profiled the country’s best boutiques & we were selected to represent the state of Maine! Needless to say, we are super honored (and very flattered!) to have made their list. Thanks Elle!

10% OFF SKIF

Missed our Trunkshow this weekend? We still have a bunch of Skif pieces... & they're still on sale!

Q&A with Jewelry Designer Dominique Mattozzi

Tell us about yourself, including what you do & how you got there.

My days of making jewelry probably started as soon as I could tie a knot.  I was obsessed with making friendship bracelets as a kid - I must have made them for everyone in my family.  Then, as I got a little older, I started making jewelry as a hobby with my mother.  In high school, I even took a few jewelry-making classes and I loved it.  Funny enough though, it wasn’t until I started graduate school studying childhood education that I more seriously got into making wire-wrapped jewelry.  At that time I wanted something fun and relaxing I could do for myself when I was not writing papers.  So, I bought a couple books and taught myself.  I really don’t know how I found time for it, but I think it helped me get through grad school.

Tell us about your jewelry line & your design style.  What do you draw inspiration from?

The inspiration for my jewelry comes from a combination of the natural beauty of Maine, where I spent my childhood, and the vibrancy of living in New York City.  My line reflects this in both the colors and materials that are used.  This collection is full of gold-filled jewelry mixed with hand-cut leather, weaved wool and cashmere yarns, and semi-precious stones.

How would you describe your design aesthetic?

Boho with clean lines yet intricate attention to detail.

Where are your pieces made?

All of the jewelry in my collection is handmade by myself at my home studio in New York City.

What’s the most difficult challenge you’ve faced as a jewelry designer?

Honestly, I’d probably have to say marketing and promotion of my jewelry.  It’s one thing to make a collection, but if no one knows about it nothing is ever going to come of it.

Our Annual Skif Trunkshow

It's the most anticipated event of the summer!

Our Skif Trunkshow is almost here, and there’s a lot to be excited about.  In addition to the 250 new Skif pieces we’re bringing in exclusively for the trunkshow, you’ll have a chance to meet our rep Emily from St. Louis, munch on some sweet treats, and enjoy a glass of delicious Prosecco.  Oh, and get 10% OFF all Skif items too!

And it gets better.  Not only will we have racks upon racks of the best-ever sweaters, but we will also be showcasing a special jewelry collection.  Jewelry designer Dominique Mattozzi will be in our Portland store with over 20 of her hand-made designs.  This detail-oriented collection is full of gold-filled jewelry mixed with hand-cut leathers, weaved wool & cashmere yarns, and semi-precious stones.  Pretty impressive stuff, if you ask us!  (Be sure to check back tomorrow for our Q&A with Dominique & a preview of her work.)

The event kicks off on Thursday, August 9th (one week from today!) and goes thru Sunday, August 12th.  Mark your calendars - this is our biggest event of the summer!

It's Here Again...

AG Trunkshow!

Memorial Day weekend is one of the most-anticipated weekends of the summer for us.  Not only is it a time of remembrance, family gatherings, barbecues, beach trips and shopping, it’s also our annual AG Trunkshow!  And this year promises to be bigger (and better!) than ever.

Jeans, shorts, skirts, dresses & knits - we’ll have a super large selection of all your AG favorites (including many new styles coming just for the trunkshow!).  Take your pick from over 75 different styles of denim & let our AG rep, Jenny, help you find the perfect pair for summer (she’ll be in our Portland store all day on Thursday!).  There will also be a discount on all AG & a free gift with purchase!  You won’t want to miss this.

In addition to the stacks upon stacks of denim, we’re adding a new element to our weekend of fun - The Ropes will be part of our trunkshow!  Local designer, Shana Ready will be in our Portland store with TONS of her highly-sought after bracelets & necklaces.  Now’s your chance to get that bright, Maine-inspired bracelet at an unbeatable price - just in time for summer.

And like always, we’ll have plenty of sweets & Prosecco to ring in the unofficial start to summer.  Yes, that means gelato (The Gelato Fiasco will be here on Thursday!) and Holy DonutsSo, so good.

Stop by Thursday thru Monday - we look forward to seeing you soon!
