Liscome Bay Coat

by Spiewak

Now that the holidays are over, it's time to get back to my regular routine. And I have to say, I welcome normalcy with open arms. It's been a fun, busy & really great season, but now I look forward to settling in for the second half of the winter months & getting some things accomplished.

That said, I spent part of yesterday going through the hundreds of images from our web photo shoot - finalizing and getting things in order. That's when I came across this photo. I absolutely love it! The lighting, the backdrop, the gorgeous Jackie Button boots by Frye... and this breathtaking Spiewak coat. And there's more where this came from; we'll be debuting more images on our official online store (coming soon, I promise!). Even better news? This coat is on sale (along with the rest of our Spiewak coats) - both in stores and online (with free shipping!). Go ahead, you deserve it.

Happy Friday!

COATS

The Most Important Layer of the Season

Now that the days are getting shorter and we've consistently had the heat on, it's time to talk COATS. Plus we all woke to our first snow of the season this morning (it came early this year!) and it's freezing out there! Be prepared for the cold (wind, rain, snow, blizzard - you name it!) with our favorite coats from Spiewak. Believe me, these are not your average winter coats that you'll be sick of before December even ends. With a Spiewak coat in your closet, you'll be welcoming the cold-weather season (okay, maybe that's a stretch...) for years & years to come!

Spruce up your winter style with 3 brilliant coats that truly work for all body types:

Liscome Bay Coat

As warm as it is stylish, this menswear-inspired coat is a quintessential wardrobe staple for every east coast gal. The olive brown color fully embraces the popular military trend and would look great paired with a slouchy cream-colored hat & gloves. And, it's tall folded collar is the best we've seen from anyone. Seriously, this coat is calling my name.

Ranger Fishtail Parka

Parkas. I would argue that they're the most functional of all coats with their sporty, yet classic look. Our top pick? Spiewak's Ranger Fishtail Parka - specifically designed to protect you from the elements with warm polyfill lining, a removable hood and a weather-resistant dry wax cotton shell. Combine that with a cinch-able waist, decorative buttons at the shoulders & cuffs, and slight high-low hem and you'll want to wear it everyday (and everywhere!). In our opinion, the classic hooded parka has never looked better.

Wool McElroy Coat

Fur-trim around the hood and toggle buttons? Apparently you can have it all. One of Spiewak's best-sellers (and ours too!) is the Wool McElroy Coat - and this season, it's clean lines & easy fit makes this coat even more appealing. It's heavy wool shell & thinsulate lining are definitely added bonuses when it comes to battling our winters here in Maine. Give it a try - you'll be glad you did.

And there you have it - our top outerwear picks of the season. Stop by our stores for an even larger selection of coats from Spiewak... OR shop some of our styles online at our Pop-Up Shop (with FREE shipping)!

In-Store Photo Shoot

Check out what's happening in our store today...

Jessica Hallet, a local blogger & model, was in our Portland store today modeling our coats for an upcoming feature in Maine Women Magazine. She tried on a bunch of our Spiewak coats (shop them here!), along with this gorgeous cape coat from The Portland Collection by Pendleton. We absolutely love the iconic pattern & soft neutrals on her.

Thanks in advance to Jessica for stopping by Bliss & featuring our coats! We can't wait to see the article when it come out.

The Bliss Pop-Up Shop

Featuring Spiewak Coats & Frye Boots

Coats & boots. They really are the most important staples of the season. Just think - not only do they keep you warm & dry on those chilly fall days, but they also have a way of bringing an entire look together. Or in the case of coats, they have the ability to cover up a wrong outfit choice (hey, we've all had them!)This season, we’re helping you take the guesswork out of cold-weather dressing with our limited-time Pop-Up Shop featuring Spiewak coats & Frye boots. Fall is here!

For many, many seasons now, we’ve been carrying Spiewak. Their rugged wool parkas & super warm down coats, classic silhouettes and esteemed brand name have us (and our customers!) hooked. And they have quite an impressive history too:

Isaac Spiewak started his business in 1904 producing handmade sheepskin vests for the dockworkers on New York’s booming waterfront. Now, over a century after its founding, I. Spiewak & Sons has grown into one of the premier names in outerwear. With a history of producing jackets for soldiers, pilots & sailors in WW1 and WW11, the company takes great pride in not only the quality of their coats, but their durability & functionality as well. They’re iconic, trusted & the starting point for any warm (and fashionable!) fall wardrobe!

And I can't say enough good things about Frye! If you already own a pair, you know exactly what I'm talking about. With zero break-in time, quality leathers and a 2 year Frye warranty, these boots are worth the investment. Just don't be surprised when you wear them everyday!

This year, bundle up in style with Spiewak & Frye - you’ll be glad you did. Especially on those sub-zero degree days!

Now thru November 9th, shop our fall Pop-Up Shop here:
http://shop.blissboutiques.com

P.S. Remember to stay tuned - another new shop will be “popping” up soon! Hint: Our next collection will feature a large selection of our favorite hoodies! It's going to be a good one.

{Can you guess what collection we’ll be featuring next?}

Fall 2012 Buying Trip

Day 4 Recap

Enter day 4 - our final day in NYC and the last day of Coterie.  It’s been a wonderful show up to this point, and we finished strong with our last & only appointment of the day.  J Brand - it’s their contoured fits, sophisticated washes and timeless look that reels us in every time we see their new collections.

J Brand’s dark wash skinny jean is their claim to fame - and for good reason.  Combine their mid-rise skinny with a pair of Frye boots for a winning look this fall.  Expect to see plenty of skinny jeans, along with some classic bootcut styles and plush corduroys too.  It’s okay, let out that sigh of relief - J Brand makes fall dressing easy!

After our appointment at J Brand, we used our time to write up some orders for fall while they were fresh in our minds.  We finished our (large!) order for Spiewak before meeting up with Rachel, a past Bliss employee, for lunch.  Having worked at Bliss for 8 years, we were thrilled to catch up with Rachel!  Unfortunately our little lunch reunion ended all too soon.

With a long drive ahead of us, we exited the Javits Center and concluded another successful buying trip!  So long NYC.  So long Coterie.  Once again, you’ve been good to us... and we’ll be back soon.

{I hope you’ve enjoyed the daily recaps of our fall buying trip.  Even though we’re all eager for the warmer weather, hopefully this series of posts has given you a little glimpse into one of our best shopping seasons here in New England.  Until then, we look forward to seeing you in our stores - shopping for linen sundresses and summery tops, of course!}

Fall 2012 Buying Trip

Day 2 Recap

Day 2 of our buying trip started much like every other day - with coffee!  We stumbled upon a quaint little cafe a few blocks from the show that kind of reminded us of Bard Coffee (only not quite as good, of course!), and we went there every morning for the rest of our trip.  With caffeine in our system, we headed towards the Javits Center for our first day at Coterie...

Nashelle

Our first stop was Nashelle’s booth, and I can’t think of a better way we could have started the show.  Her jewelry is so unique; every piece is handmade and it truly shows in her fine details & craftsmanship.  Everything looked stunning as usual, but there were a couple standouts.  The first one was her mini collection - basically she made some of her best-sellers in a smaller size (something I really appreciate since I can’t wear heavy, large earrings all day).  Practical and still super stylish - it’s a win-win combination!  The other standout was Nashelle’s charm necklaces.  With a wide variety of charms, there was something there for everyone.  (Stay tuned - there’s talk about having a charm necklace trunk show in our stores sometime soon!)

Butter by Nadia

If you’ve ever been in our stores, you’ve seen our wrap dresses by Butter.  They are a crowd favorite... and for good reason.  Their design, fabric and overall look sets them apart, and you will continue to see this for fall.  Color blocking was a big theme at their booth, along with mid-length and maxi-length skirts.  We’re excited about the new three-quarter length wrap dresses as well - it’s the perfect dress for any occasion!  You’ll want to wear it everyday (and you can!).
