Our Spring 2013 Buying Trip

As many of you know from all our instagram-ing, facebook-ing and tweeting, we were in NYC two weeks ago for Coterie - one of the fashion world’s largest (& most exciting!) trade shows. And even though the city was buzzing with all things fall, it was clear that the buyers were focused on spring (and for good reason)! By the looks of it, spring is stacking up to be everything we could ever want... the return of authentic denim washes in new modern cuts, carefree flowy tops & an abundance of dresses.
Okay, so maybe you’re not ready to be planning your spring wardrobe just yet (after all, fall has only just begun!), but there’s no harm in getting a sneak peek at what you’ll see in our stores come March. Keep reading... this is going to be fun!
Lily Aldridge for Velvet
She’s been the face & body of Velvet since 2004... and now she’s launching a limited-edition collaboration with them! Lily Aldridge is a combination of the beautiful girl next door and rock-and-roll supermodel (with a closet to die for!), and this spring she’s sharing her covetable style with us. Her collection of tees, dresses & sweaters will easily pair back to all your favorite wardrobe basics. Oh, and did I mention the most perfect military-inspired lightweight jacket? And to make this line even sweeter, Lily personally named every style after a close friend or family member!
MiH Jeans
Denim is going back to the basics for spring. Vintage-looking, distressed washes will be a must, so you can expect plenty of lighter washes in our stores once the warmer weather hits. In addition to the return of authentic denim, we’re bringing in a new denim line that we’re oh-so excited about - MiH Jeans! Founded in London in 1969, MiH Jeans has a history of being “the original British jeans brand” and the best-fitting jeans around. Some things we love about them: they’ve always been a family-run company, their silhouettes are ultra slimming, and their details (buttons, pockets, etc.) are simply beautiful.

Fall 2012 Buying Trip

Enter day 4 - our final day in NYC and the last day of Coterie. It’s been a wonderful show up to this point, and we finished strong with our last & only appointment of the day. J Brand - it’s their contoured fits, sophisticated washes and timeless look that reels us in every time we see their new collections.
J Brand’s dark wash skinny jean is their claim to fame - and for good reason. Combine their mid-rise skinny with a pair of Frye boots for a winning look this fall. Expect to see plenty of skinny jeans, along with some classic bootcut styles and plush corduroys too. It’s okay, let out that sigh of relief - J Brand makes fall dressing easy!
After our appointment at J Brand, we used our time to write up some orders for fall while they were fresh in our minds. We finished our (large!) order for Spiewak before meeting up with Rachel, a past Bliss employee, for lunch. Having worked at Bliss for 8 years, we were thrilled to catch up with Rachel! Unfortunately our little lunch reunion ended all too soon.
With a long drive ahead of us, we exited the Javits Center and concluded another successful buying trip! So long NYC. So long Coterie. Once again, you’ve been good to us... and we’ll be back soon.
{I hope you’ve enjoyed the daily recaps of our fall buying trip. Even though we’re all eager for the warmer weather, hopefully this series of posts has given you a little glimpse into one of our best shopping seasons here in New England. Until then, we look forward to seeing you in our stores - shopping for linen sundresses and summery tops, of course!}

Fall 2012 Buying Trip

Day 3 was our much anticipated “denim day” at Coterie! The majority of our day was booked full of denim appointments at all of our favorite lines. We knew it would be a lot to take in, but couldn’t wait to see what the denim industry has in store for fall.
Our appointment at Joe’s Jeans started with their ready-to-wear collection, which consisted of covetable tops, darling dresses and novelty jackets. They capitalized on the mini-dot trend with adorable flannel button-ups - something you’ll be seeing in our stores come September! Their denim was a sure thing as well; we ordered plenty of our customer’s favorite denim staples... and threw in a red skinny jean too!
AG’s booth is always very recognizable at the show. Their walls are made of huge wood panels, they have doll-size displays on their walls of all their denim styles (so cute!), and they even have an AG bar at the front of their booth. It’s slightly over the top, but if anyone can get away with it, it’s AG!
The mini-dot trend was seen here as well - both in a sheer top and on their jeans! I can’t get enough of this trend; it’s cute, wearable and women of all ages can get away with wearing it. In addition to the dots, AG had some note-worthy denim washes and a large selection of colored corduroys for fall - a wardrobe staple here in New England!
Fall 2012 Buying Trip

It’s a busy time of year for us at Bliss. New merchandise is rolling in for Spring - bright colors, fun dresses, and even shorts! It’s as if our stores are getting a fresh makeover after a long winter; it’s exciting (and refreshing!) to say the least. But for some of us, we’re already looking ahead to Fall... yes, Fall. You see, just a couple weeks ago we headed down to New York City for Fall Coterie - the largest women’s contemporary clothing & accessories trade show in the fashion industry. With over 1,200 vendors and 15,000 attendees, it’s a whirlwind of Fall collections, upcoming trends and a glimpse into what our stores will look like come September.
I know it’s hard to even think about skipping over the best time of year (spring/summer!), but trust me when I say that you won’t be disappointed when Fall rolls around. Keep reading for a recap of our buying trip!
